Shibarium is the eagerly anticipated second-layer blockchain network of Shiba Inu. This new network aims to address urgent issues such as scalability and transaction costs on the Ethereum network.
What is Shibarium?
Shibarium is a new Layer 2 blockchain developed by the Shiba Inu project. As a Layer 2 solution, it is designed to seamlessly interact with the primary Ethereum blockchain (Layer 1) to provide a more scalable and cost-effective transaction platform.
This new blockchain aims to address some fundamental issues that have been troubling Ethereum, including high gas fees and slow transaction times.
Shibarium not only seeks to enhance the usability of the Shiba Inu token by offering faster and more cost-effective transactions but also has the potential to play a significant role in the broader adoption of blockchain technology. The Shiba Inu community eagerly anticipates its arrival, viewing Shibarium as a crucial step in evolving the token from a ‘meme coin’ to a powerful player in the decentralized finance space.
Shibarium exemplifies an innovative approach to blockchain scalability and efficiency as a Layer 2 solution. Layer 2 solutions are protocols built on top of a foundational blockchain (Layer 1) to increase capacity and speed.
By conducting transactions outside the main Ethereum chain, Shibarium significantly reduces the network load, resulting in faster transaction times and lower fees. As a Layer 2 solution, it has the potential to revolutionize transactions within the Shiba Inu ecosystem, making the ecosystem more accessible and attractive to users.
While the current high gas fees and slow transactions on the Ethereum network pose a barrier for many, the introduction of Shibarium represents a proactive step in overcoming such challenges. Therefore, it is crucial for the growth of the Shiba Inu token.
How does Shibarium work?
Like other significant Layer 2 solutions, Shibarium aims to offload a portion of computational activities off-chain. This strategy targets reducing the burden caused by transactions on the main Ethereum network. The gas fees determined in the upcoming blockchain will be paid in BONE, serving as an incentive for validators and representatives in the Shibarium ecosystem, with twenty million BONE tokens allocated for this purpose.
The network will operate with Heimdall Validators and Bor block-producing nodes and will be compared to Polygon (MATIC). While Bor will be fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), Heimdall will be built on top of the Tendermint consensus engine.
In the Shibarium network, users need to lock 10,000 BONE tokens to qualify as validators. For those who wish to support the network without participating in node operations, there will be an option to delegate their tokens.
Six different participant categories have received invitations to join the newly announced Join Shibarium platform. This platform encourages ‘web3/web4’ application developers to create software on the network platform. Entrepreneurs in the cryptocurrency space can move their ventures to this blockchain. Registrations for validators and representatives are also ongoing.
Moreover, businesses looking to implement Shiba Inu for payments can initiate their applications through the ‘Join Shibarium’ site, enabled by an active Layer 2 solution. Ecosystem administrators and content creators can participate in the network’s marketing and development initiatives by submitting their applications.
Shibarium launchpads and dApps
The ecosystem expands its support for new projects through launchpads. Dogpad, represented by the DOGPAD token, and ShibPad, using SHIBP, serve as launch platforms that help projects gain traction and visibility.
A wide range of decentralized applications (dApps) also enriches the Shibarium ecosystem. Shib Chomp, guided by the CHOMP token, offers secure storage solutions. Treat, backed by the stablecoin governance token TREAT, enhances stability and governance. Prodigy provides an efficient trading sniper bot with the PRO token. Shibarium Name Service (SNS) simplifies addresses similar to Ethereum Name Service (ENS).
What is the significance of Shibarium for Shiba Inu?
The significance of Shibarium for Shiba Inu is multifaceted, covering several critical aspects ready to enhance the project’s capabilities and long-term potential:
- Enhanced transaction efficiency: The network provides the Shiba Inu ecosystem with a Layer 2 solution, offering faster transaction times. This progress is expected to meet significant growth and increase transaction speeds, although additional time may be needed to determine precise efficiency data.
- Reduced transaction costs: Ethereum users have often grappled with exorbitant transaction fees that sometimes surpass the transaction value. The implementation of Shibarium is expected to alleviate the burden of high transaction costs by minimizing gas fees through the Layer 2 solution.
- Developing utility for the token: Despite burning more than 40% of SHIB tokens, the extensive supply remains a significant obstacle to growth. Shibarium addresses this challenge by making BONE its native currency. Validators within the network will receive compensation in BONE to secure and verify transactions. Additionally, SHIB will be used in the new environment to control its inflated quantity.
- dApp creation: Decentralized applications (dApps) operate on peer-to-peer networks, but the original meme coin lacked the necessary resources to serve as a native coin for DApps. Shibarium aims to establish a robust ecosystem by providing developers with the technical resources needed to create specialized dApps for the Shiba Inu ecosystem, leveraging both Ethereum and Layer 2 solutions.
