Testnet BNB (tBNB) is an application that allows testing of applications on the BCS network before deployment to the mainnet. Additionally, tBNB can be used to fulfill opBNB AirDrop tasks.
What is Testnet BNB?
Testnet BNB is necessary to test applications on the BSC test network before deploying them to the mainnet. You can request Testnet BNB through official BNB Smart Chain channels or other common channels such as Quicknode and Coinbase. Testnet BNB can also be used to fulfill opBNB airdrop tasks.
What is BSC Testnet ?
The BNB Smart Chain supports smart contracts and decentralized applications. Smart contracts define how Web3 applications function, and these contracts, along with the applications they support, need to be tested by users and developers before being deployed to the BSC mainnet. Similarly, new updates made on the BSC network must undergo testing before being deployed to the mainnet to ensure a smooth launch. Once a protocol is deployed to the mainnet, it requires the use of real tokens with monetary value, which can potentially lead to financial losses for users and developers.
The BSC testnet is designed for such scenarios. It serves as a playground where users and developers can test applications without the risk of losing funds. Similar to the BSC mainnet, it operates on a Proof of Stake consensus mechanism, with project team members playing a validating role.
However, it includes test tokens instead of real tokens with monetary value. Since these test tokens can be obtained for free through channels, developers and users can freely experiment with new applications without worrying about potential losses.

What is tBNB used for ?
As a developer, you can test your new applications using testnet tokens before and after opening the test program to a wider audience. Additionally, you can assist testers by providing them with testnet tokens to facilitate the testing process. As a validator on the mainnet, you can also test how new features on the network may affect your node and explore how updates that concern you as a validator can be utilized.
For users, tBNB functions similarly to BNB. tBNB can be used to test new applications and participate in incentivized testnet programs, where users can perform a series of transactions on the application in exchange for rewards, as seen in the additional tasks list for opBNB airdrop. Users can also test new BSC network updates or become familiar with the BNB Chain by sending and receiving crypto assets and adding the network to MetaMask before engaging in transactions on the mainnet.
The usage of Testnet BNB for the opBNB Airdrop
As part of the opBNB launch, the team initiated a campaign with a $50,000 airdrop. Users can complete additional tasks with tBNB, including the following:
- Depositing tBNB from BSC Testnet to opBNB Testnet.
- Withdrawing tBNB from opBNB Testnet to BSC Testnet.
- Deposit BEP-20 tokens (BUSD, BTCB, ETH, USDT, USDC, and DAI) from BSC Testnet to opBNB Testnet; these can be requested from the official Testnet BNB channel.
- Withdraw BEP-20 tokens from opBNB Testnet to BSC Testnet.
- Transfer tBNB to addresses on the opBNB Testnet.
